The S.T.A.G.E. Story
Yuma Community Theater has long been dedicated to providing enriching theater experiences for the youth and teens of Yuma County. In 2014, we partnered with the Yuma County Library to launch summer theater classes for teens, a program that flourished until the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 brought it to a halt. However, responding to a strong demand for teen theater, we revived our efforts in July 2023 with a successful production of Heathers the Musical: Teen Edition. This production resonated deeply with both teens and the community. Building on this momentum, in the summer of 2024, we introduced the S.T.A.G.E. Program—Summer Theater Arts for Growth and Education. This expanded program is divided into two age groups: Youth (Ages 8-13) and Teens (Ages 13-18). Participants delve into the fundamentals of musical theater and stagecraft, including props, set design, and costumes. Beyond rehearsal, the program offers workshops on such as sound engineering, audition techniques, vocal training, and more, providing a comprehensive theater education experience.
